According to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, parents should establish a dental home for their child between when the baby’s first tooth erupts and before 12 months of age.
To help educate parents on the importance of an “age 1 dental visit,” you’re encouraged to share with them the following infographic. It shows how assessing risk, establishing habits and building a long-term relationship with a dentist who will manage their child’s total dental needs can help lead to a lifetime of good dental health.
While the age 1 dental visit is not a new recommendation, not all dentists are comfortable managing very small children. Education materials are available that help encourage general dentists to see small children, especially where a pediatric dentist may not be available.
